Volunteer: Geer Street Learning Garden Morning

No gardening experience is required to volunteer! Join us for a morning in the garden to jump start your day! Please review our Garden Policies and Procedures to review inclement weather plans and other site-specific information.

Garden Policies and Procedures

Volunteer Waiver

Location: 110 E Geer St, Durham, NC 27701

*FREE street parking is available on N Mangum and N Roxboro St. Please, DO NOT park at Reinvestment Partners. For a detailed map, click here.

Working Conditions

Dress Code: Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. We also recommend bringing a sun hat to combat the heat and sun rays!

Items to Bring: Please do not forget to bring a water bottle! We will supply gloves and all other necessary garden equipment.

Allergies: Please bring any allergy medications for ants, bees, plants, etc. There are active bee colonies and red ants in the garden, and we ask volunteers to bring any appropriate medication such as an EpiPen.   

Tasks

Volunteers will assist with general garden tasks such as harvesting, planting, weeding, mulching, and watering. Garden tasks are subject to change daily based on needs but please come prepared to bend, kneel, and lift items to complete our daily tasks. Volunteers can also support our garden education courses and other initiatives facilitated at our Growing School Garden sites.

Volunteer: Geer Street Learning Garden: Watering Shift

The garden waterer is devoted to helping keep our plants hydrated over the weekend. The waterer should arrive before noon (unless otherwise noted) on their scheduled day to run our irrigation system and water appropriate plants. All watering will be performed independently by the volunteer. Watering should take up to 30-60 minutes. Training on watering/irrigation is required before your shift. Please contact the garden coordinator, Bella@Foodshuttle.org, to schedule your training and all garden inquiries.

We are looking for folks who can reliably commit to their shift. If you are no longer able to attend your registered shift, please notify the Garden Manager and cancel your sign up immediately so coverage can be coordinated.
