Help Out at the Food Shuttle Farm!
Volunteers will assist with general farm tasks such as seasonal harvesting, packing, planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, and greenhouse work. Farm tasks are subject to change daily based on needs but please come prepared to bend, kneel, and lift medium to heavy items to complete our daily tasks.
Daily tasks may be more demanding than others but volunteering at the Farm is a rewarding experience and we encourage everyone to sign up! Please do not forget to bring a water bottle!
Location: 2300 Dover Farm Road, Raleigh, NC 27606. Please park along the tree line where you will see staff/volunteer vehicles.
CHECKING IN
When you exit your vehicle take a short walk on the gravel road past the greenhouse until you reach the multi-purpose farm building on your left. A staff member will be there to greet you at this location.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Weather: Volunteers are expected to work in varying weather conditions, including full sun, cold temperatures, and rain (apart from thunderstorms). If a shift is canceled due to rain, the staff will communicate updates via email and phone calls.
Allergies: Please bring any allergy medications (i.e., bees, plants, etc.). There are active bee colonies on the property’s periphery and we ask volunteers to bring any appropriate allergy medication.
Injuries: If you are interested in indoor/lower-impact volunteer activities at the Farm, please consider our limited Indoor Farm Shift opportunity or other volunteer opportunities at the Food Shuttle. We ask volunteers to be at least 4-6 weeks post-operation, may request a doctor’s note for physical injuries subject to monitored healing, and we will not allow volunteers with broken bones or sprained ligaments to participate.
YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
All volunteers must be 13 years old to volunteer. Minors 16 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult. If volunteering as a group, we ask for a 1:5 adult-to-youth ratio and all chaperones must sign up and work alongside their youth volunteers. Our Farm Policies and Procedures outline the age restrictions.
