*Volunteers must be 16 years of age to help with this task. Under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
*This opportunity is approved for Court-Ordered/Lawyer-Recommended Community Service.
Are you driven to help fight against hunger? If so, consider volunteering as a Driver’s Assistant, where you will accompany one of our Food Shuttle drivers on a truck, collecting food from our partner agencies in the surrounding service counties.
Where to Check-In?
Please arrive on time and enter through the center entrance of the Vernon Malone Center. You will be greeted by a staff member at the front desk and brought to the warehouse when it is time to be paired with a driver.
Dress Code
You must wear CLOSED-TOE/HEEL SHOES. We recommend bringing gloves, water, and a snack or lunch, as you will be on the road for most of the day. There is NO smoking or vaping in the Food Shuttle vehicles.
Shift Duration
It is important to be on time for your shift. If you are late, you will not be able to volunteer for this opportunity, as our drivers must stay on schedule for their pick-up and drop-off times. Drivers will not return to the Raleigh Warehouse until they are done with their route and will only return early for emergencies. When registering for a shift, please ensure you can arrive at the warehouse by 8 AM and expect to stay until at least 1 PM. If you are unable to commit to the entire shift, please refrain from signing up.
Tasks
To maintain route productivity, we ask for these volunteers to feel comfortable lifting approximately 40 lbs. (equivalent to a medium bag of dog food). Expect medium to heavy lifting loading/unloading food donations, recording food weight, and categorizing food per program. Other duties may be assigned by our Warehouse Manager depending on the needs of the day.
Contact
Please contact Emily at emily@foodshuttle.org or 919.390.1968 if you have any questions about volunteering. If you need to cancel, please do so ASAP.
